A postcard from the edge

One of the exciting things happening in the missional church is the fact that it is taking the issues of social justice very seriously. Mike Frosts’ fantastic new book Exiles bears that out. Actually, some take offense at this. For whatever reason I cannot understand. Anyhow, Forge Victoria is hosting an interactive night on the topic with Stephen Said, activist, church planter, nutcase, great friend. For those that can come (obviously the Aussies living in Victoria!) it would be great to have you come along.

I should also let you all know that Forge is hosting another Dangerous Stories Summit 9-11 March 2007. The first event was an absolute hoot. People came from all over (from as far as America and Europe) to come to the first gathering of the emerging missional tribes in Australia and New Zealand. This DG2 is a must for those who came to the first as well as for those who are interested in exploring missional movements as well as networking with other freaks. Here is the flyer for the event. Our new website should be up (yesterday!) and registrations can be done online.

Sorry for all the promo, but I really think these are worth coming to.

It is bizarre that people actually get upset about things like social justice and creation care isn’t it? I was just mentioning this to my husband last night. One of my friends who is not a Christian cares deeply for the environment (as should we all) and her Christian neighbor always teases her about it which obviously puts a bad taste in her mouth for Christianity…and I don’t blame her. What a strange thing for a Christian to do - to actually talk down to caring for creation. We face this from our fellow brothers and sisters in faith as well.

You are sooo right Makeesha. Not only is it active disobedience to the overwhelming weight of Scripture, hitorically Christian have been outight justifyers of some of the worst injustices (e.g. apartheid and slavery) and environmental degradation. I cannot understand it! You should read Mike’s book. It really is good.

I definitely plan to. I read an article of his from awhile back where he discussed the exile concept. It spurred me on and I put together a teaching for our community about living as exiles and how it relates to the broad concept of Kingdom living. I’m also very much looking forward to your book :)

I am glad you guys are so endorsing of social and ecological action. I have been writing about them on my blog for a little while http://jen-reed-candid.blogspot.com/

I’m from Sydney, studying at Morling, and enjoyed your book with Mike ‘The Shaping of things to come’ and I travelled down for the last Dangerous Stories. It was unreal! Next year I will be newly married and residing in Melbourne, and we will definately be there, along with a group from my fiance’s church. Can’t wait!
    Glad your blogging Alan,

    God bless.
