the trouble with paris….hilton

Every now and again there comes a book or a resource that somehow seems to capture an insight that describes the essense of the times. One such resource is a video series that has just been released by my dear friend and Forge colleague, the incredibly insightful genius Mark Sayers. It is called The Trouble With Paris.

I heard Mark again at our intensive a few days ago and once again I went away deeply moved by what I had heard. It is the most penetrating look at consumerism and discipleship that I have come accross. I cannot recommend him and the DVD (The Trouble With Paris) more highly.

Go to the website to check it out–there are samples there so you can get a feel for the resource.

Looks fantastic. I’ll pass this on to our youth pastor.

Good idea. Its immediate impact and focus is on Gen-Y.

Looks great but heavily priced - i think resources like this should be made more available by being, at least, comparable to market prices for DVD’s.
What makes this worth $61.20 (incl postage)?! Heck, I can buy a Paris Hilton DVD and a bible for less.

Sorry, I had hoped the relevance of this resource would be reflected first in the price - thus demonstrating the value to make it available to the common man…or is this the ploy: to overprice the dvd to a higher status as Paris would?
    If so - well done!

Chris, you make a fair point. As one of the co-producers of this resource I can speak on behalf of the guys by saying that it’s definitely designed for broader use than just personal viewing, thus we aren’t competing on price with your favourite movies from JB hi-fi.

If you note the most comparable market product, Nooma, our four lengthy modules would provide roughly the same value.

This resource is already gaining significant traction in Australia and beyond, and you are the first to raise an issue over cost. I will feed this back to the guys. Cheers.

Chris, if I may speak for my buddies here, the production and the graphics in these videos is quite exceptional and takes a lot of work…and therefore cost. But the content is what makes it absolutely unique. I would think that you have spent more money of less worthwhile things somewhere in your past. :-)

I recently acquired this resource at DS2 and similar comments were made re the price from other members of my community. I understand it’s not a resources we all need to own (& know how long it has taken to put together) so a number of us went in to purchase it.
Just last night we did week 1 as a community and worked through the questions. It was a good/challenging time for us and I highly recommend this resource. Can’t wait for week 2.
