the forgotten ways online course v.1.2

Just a note to say that we are starting a new round of online training in missional imagination and practice. The new sessions start early September.
We are learning as we go, so in order to improve the experience we have decided to..
- standardize it to a more intensive 8 week format (instead of the extended 16 or 32 weeks)
- focus our online cafe (audio-visual learning environment) on application and praxis instead of more theory and chew on the theory on the bulletin boards and posts that are the integral part of the process
- host smaller groups to encourage more interactive learning and comradeship (from 5-8 per cohort)
- each cohort will be made up of more peer based participants (instead of heaving everyone into the same room) allowing for particular interests to be highlighted. E.g. denominational/translocal leaders, pioneering church planters, incarnational missionaries, senior ministers, etc. will be grouped together as much as possible.
- make it less ‘lecture’ style and much more interactive around interpreting the material itself. Less of me and more of you.
- group it as part of the fantastic Missio MCAP program
- deliver the above for a much more modest US$350.
- we will host it on the shapevine online campus which uses cutting edge technology to deliver ideas that change the world.
- we are close to getting accreditation from a number of seminaries in the US
What more can I say!! New groups start beginning of September, so get hold of Lance Ford to register on lncford (at) yahoo (dot) com or call him on 940-300-2495 (this is a US number).
See you there! ![]()

Good morning Alan (at least where I am reading this),
Would you say that this is a good course for a lay-person? Although, I would have to admit that the question is coming from a lay-person who is attending Fuller in the MAGL program….
Richard, it would depend on your interests and focus. If you have read TFW and resonated with it, it will be a way of fleshing it out in the context of many conversations and discussions.
BTW, we have had ‘lay’ people (I hate the term) on the course so far. And while they might have struggled with the jargon, they kept the rest of us honest in calling us back to non-jargonized language..
Hey Richard,
What cohort # are you in? I’m in #11-Metanoia!
If you have the time margin, I highly encourage you to take this course with Big Al.
peace-
Hi Charlie,
I am in #7. Just finished up with the cohort in early June. It’s a great program, especially for those that are more practically minded.
As you get closer to the end of your program, Charlie, I would highly recommend Alan and Michael Frost’s book, ‘The Shaping of Things To Come’ as an add-on to some of the things you will be studying. I wish I had seen it earlier in the process.
Blessings!
Rich
Richard,
I read Shaping 2 years ago, one of my all time favs!
Just finishing Lifelong now and hated that class, Mentoring is next.
Big Al did a one week intensive at Fuller in July, I took that as my first elective, best class of all by far!
(sorry to derail from TFW course topic!)
Peace and Pinotage!
Chuckaroo, keep singing the song!
Thanks for the thumbs up. See you soon.
It makes sense Alan, I was at the conference you did in Vancouver BC with Alan R. and it was very good. I really appreciated the content and heart that you bring to our faith!
I was the old guy in the electric chair…
