from extraction to disposal: the cost of consumption

Here is a scary reminder of the environmental cost of our consumptive societies. How hard is repentance going to be when it comes to the economy?? The video takes a little while to load, but be patient. and make sure you put your helmets on!

What a coincidence. Me and my tribe here are entertaining starting a neighborhood initiative for recycling. It is in the incubating stage right now, but the idea is to launch a “hybrid” organization. On one end we will help people start a recycling initiative in their own neighborhoods or street through an online tool kit. In the middle, our home church will offer to do our own streets for free. On the other end, we will offer to pick up peopes stuff for $5 a month. This will of course be in a limited zone at first.

We are looking forward to having an excuse to meet the people on our street and build relationships. Does anyone have any resources out there or ideas they can point us to to help get this kicked off?

This was an awesome clip! I wish they spent a little more time talking about the identity of the Corporation though. By picturing “the Corporation” as the “person” it seems to miss the global effect of Corporate leadership.

Instead of being a person of Corporate leadership to which we can identify (i.e. it’s Bill Gates, Donald Trump, ect.) the identity of Corporation is more like a self propelled satellite which follows a global orbit (i.e. McDonaldizations, Franchise). That is why the leadership found in “South Africa” is as volatile and responsible as that in N.A. Perhaps I’m wrong too!

I think I will be sharing this with “my tribe” this weekend while seeking out how we might reach the greater area not to mention our own actions!
