two new books by november…yay!
Just an update on the books I have been working on. They will both be published at the end of this year. Check this out…
- The Forgotten Ways Handbook: This book is a very practical guide to applying The Forgotten Ways for activating missional movements and for remissionalizing the local church/organization. Each chapter contains a dejargonized, summary version of each element of mDNA, a set of suggested practices to embed these in the church. All this is built around adult learning models and group work. My friend and Forge colleague, Darryn Altclass, has added his insights into the deal. Published by Baker/Brazos
- reJESUS: A Wild Messiah for a Missional Church: (co-written with my old co-conspirator, Michael Frost) This is a radicalizing book that aims at helping the church recalibrate itself around Jesus as the protoypal Christian. It is what I would call a missional Christology. And it is wild! Published by Hendrickson.

Excellent! I’ll have to start pinching the pennies now!
Peace,
Jamie
I’ll look forward to them — with Thanksgiving!
Looking forward to them, dude!
pumped!
Can’t wait! I am your No. 1 Fan after all. And maybe a creepy stalker… I’ll let you decide.
Will be looking forward to reading your new book.
Have been giving The Forgotten Ways book as a gift to some of our friends.
It is very well-researched and written and very accessible to read.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading it.
Because of the authorship collaboration you have with Mike Frost can you suggest a way that his course “Exilio” could be used in conjunction with yours, which is very similarly themed.
Which books for instance would you tackle first in a small home group?
How could these handbooks be used in seminar settings?
We present seminars at conferences for Christian creative movement artists. Those seminars are focused mainly on how to utilise the arts to promote social justice and in incarnational mission generally. The seminars are interactive in nature. We want to draw on material from particularly from Exilio and The Forgotten Ways books in doing that.
SPRUNG! Andrew’s got the day off work and I’m several suburbs away at work doing my usual lunchtime blog thing. Thankfully, we are a husband and wife in unity because they are good questions he’s asked as we are looking forward to spreading the mDNA word around our networks. It will be great to have the TFW Handbook available as well as the Exilio pack!

Great! Looking forward to them both!
Thanks for sharing your thoughts online and in print… you always share plenty of “meat” to chew over.
Are you going to have some sabbath rest after all of this? I thought you were busy writing a doctorate or something!!!
Glad to hear it!! I was bummed earlier today bc CBD says they’ll be published next year.
Nah, late 07.

Been pretty busy as of late myself. I look forward to the reads/seeds here in Canada as well!!!
Hey Alan- Thanks for spending time with us (Highland Park Pres) I wish we’d had more time to be with you but what we had was good. Thank you for your convictions and for sharing them even when they are not popular. Also thanks for your sweet hat at the coffee talk on Friday night
It is always great to have a good book to look forward to — and now two good books.
Thanks for the heads up on this!! Can I be your No. 2 fan?
Good work, I can’t imagine how you get time to write, having heard about your typical schedule from mutual friends (B’ham)!
Crikey Al - you’re churning them out.
Hey Alan. I’m thrilled that these are coming out this year. I’ll try to do my part in getting the word out on this. We have needed a work on Christological ecclessiology for a long time. It was good to hear from you today. Hope to see you out in Pasadena sometime soon!
looking forward to both, alan!
Can’t wait for both of them! Alan - I am at a new church now in a suburb of Vancouver - our entire leadership team is reading Forgotten Ways right now - so the handbook will be very handy.

Btw, when are you coming back to Dallas TX?
Looks like I know what to request for my Christmas presents…
How do you and Frosty have time to write a book when you’re in separate parts of the world?
Hey Alan,
Glad I plunged into this one. After ordering both books, I noticed 2009 as the date. I was almost ready to cancel and wait. So glad to hear it’s going to be this year. Thanks!
alan, saw this post a while back, but just had to comment and say how i can’t wait for these books! Thank you for your work in advancing the kingdom, peace bro.
